Malaysian government doesn't plan to amend constitution to prevent party hopping

The government has no plans to amend the Federal Constitution regarding the prohibition on Members of Parliament switching political parties, the Dewan Rakyat was told. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the current legal framework under Article 49A of the Federal Constitution is sufficient and balanced. She added that the provision was designed to ensure political stability while respecting the constitutional right to freedom of association.
